Crossplay

Yes, No More Room in Hell 2 has crossplay between PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. How it works, why squads fail to connect, and what the game needs online.

Updated

Yes. No More Room in Hell 2 supports crossplay. PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players can be in the same eight-player squad, and this is confirmed on both official storefronts rather than being a community assumption.

What is officially confirmed

The Steam store page lists the game's features as Cross-Platform Multiplayer and Online Co-op. The Xbox store page is the one that spells out cross-platform co-op most explicitly, so it is the stronger citation of the two. Two separate official storefronts saying the same thing is about as solid as a platform claim gets.

Worth noting what is not on that feature list: there is no Single-player tag anywhere on the Steam page.

You cannot play without a connection

Both the minimum and the recommended system requirements list NETWORK: Broadband Internet connection. That is not boilerplate — it is a hard requirement, and it applies even to modes that look like they should run on their own.

The game also uses Easy Anti-Cheat, which is kernel-level and requires you to accept a third-party EULA before playing.

When crossplay does not work

This is the part that brings most people to this page, and it is worth being precise about which problems are acknowledged and which are player reports.

Officially under investigation. The launch-week known-issues post lists "crossplay toggle matchmaking adjustments" as something the studio is looking at. So the crossplay toggle itself is a known soft spot, straight from the developer.

Reported by players. Cross-platform squads failing to form is a recurring community complaint. The self-help fix that circulates is unglamorous: restart the console or the PC and try again. Some players report it working the next day without any change on their end, which points at a matchmaking-side problem rather than anything you can configure locally.

The private-lobby gap. There is currently no separate private-room option. The only control is the "fill squad" checkbox, and unticking it to run a closed group is itself a source of deployment errors, particularly on PS5.

What the latest hotfix did and did not fix

Hotfix 1.0.3.1 shipped crash fixes, customisation fixes, and a line about improvements to server stability. It contained no matchmaking or squad fixes. If your problem is that squads will not form, that patch was not aimed at you.

Practical order of operations

If a cross-platform squad will not come together, work through it in this order rather than reinstalling anything:

  1. Check that everyone is actually on a supported platform — Xbox Series X|S only, there is no Xbox One version.
  2. Try with "fill squad" left at its default rather than unticked.
  3. Have the person who cannot connect restart the machine entirely, not just the game.
  4. Try again later. Community reports of the same squad working the following day are common enough to be worth the wait before you go further.

None of that is satisfying, but the honest answer is that squad formation is a known rough edge the studio has acknowledged and has not yet shipped a fix for.

Does crossplay affect anything else?

No. Your Responder, its level, its skills and its purchased loadout belong to your account on your platform, and crossplay does not merge or transfer anything between platforms. Playing with friends on another platform costs you nothing in progression terms — it is purely a matchmaking question.
